Mercer County Boys And Girls Club Receives $25K Donation

Students in Lawrence, Trenton and Ewing will benefit from the donation.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Students in Lawrence Township, Trenton and Ewing will benefit from a $25,000 contribution from AT&T to the Boys and Girls Club of Mercer County, county officials announced this week.

The donation will support the club’s After School STEM Academy, an experiential learning program where underserved high school students explore various aspects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and participate in college-readiness activities.

“Helping students develop the skills they need to succeed in 21st century careers is a critical step to building the diverse workforce we need to power our company – and our country – for the future,” AT&T Mid Atlantic President J. Michael Schweder said. “We want to do what we can to help prepare New Jersey’s future tech leaders, and supporting these Boys and Girls Clubs is a way we can achieve that goal.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Mercer County is one of three clubs in New Jersey to receive a total of $80,000 to enhance their STEM club programs offered to students.

The Boys and Girls Club off Paterson and Passaic received $25,000 to support the d2D/STEM Experience that prepares underserved high school students for college and career by providing paid internships, STEM-based experiential learning opportunities, SAT preparation activities and field trips.

In Atlantic City, a $30,000 contribution from AT&T to the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City supports the AC STEM Initiative. Through this program, 50 high school students with the opportunity to acquire 21st century skills in the field of technology, participate in academic reinforcement, college preparation activities, and explore local STEM careers and occupations.

The support is part of AT&T Aspire, AT&T’s signature philanthropic initiative to drive student success in school and beyond, according to Schweder. Schweder added that AT&T is a proud supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). It has contributed to chapters across the country for more than a decade. All told, AT&T has contributed more than $13 million to BGCA chapters nationwide as part of AT&T Aspire, including $5 million for the BGCA’s Great Futures Campaign.
