Mercer County Courthouse Offers Free Wi-Fi

Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello is pleased to announce that free wireless internet service is now available in the Clerk’s public search room at the Courthouse Annex in Trenton. Members of the general public and professional document researchers can now enjoy a free and convenient connection from their wireless-enabled laptops or mobile devices. Previously, there was no wireless connection in the County Clerk’s search area for the public to use. Under a pilot project, all users who log into the County Clerk’s Wi-Fi network can connect to research sites at no charge.

The Clerk’s Office pursued the installation of free Wi-Fi services to bring greater convenience and usefulness to the services it provides. After several weeks of testing, the Wi-Fi system was fully activated through a Verizon network. However, the upgrade remains a continual pilot project as advances in wireless technology and data security continues to evolve. The upgrade was funded through the County Clerk’s Special Trust Fund, which is dedicated to improvements in the Clerk's Office, derived from recording and user fees - not county tax dollars. The Wi-Fi technology equipment was provided through a shared service arrangement with Mercer County’s Office of Information Technology. Users must obtain a password prior to logging on.

Earlier this year, Sollami Covello announced that the County Clerk’s Office had launched a new cutting-edge computer system for the recording and research of land and property records. The new MS Windows-based system, used in four other New Jersey counties, was installed in the spring. The addition of free Wi-Fi supplements the Clerk’s new research system, which provides a host of new features designed to improve the speed and efficiency of record searching.
