Mercer County Fugitive Wanted for Arson, Child Sex Assault Captured in Florida

Shane Fitzpatrick was extradited to New Jersey on Thursday.

A Mercer County man who was on the Most Wanted List for two years has been captured in Florida and extradited to New Jersey, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler said.

Shane Fitzpatrick, 29, had warrants out for his arrest for failure to appear in NJ Superior Court in August of 2013 on charges of arson (2008) and sexual assault on a minor (2011).

The Mercer County Sheriff s Office Fugitive Unit discovered Fitzpatrick was in Orlando, Florida, following an exceedingly active investigation to find him.

The U.S. Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Fitzpatrick on Friday, July 1, on behalf of the Sheriff s Office (in a cooperative effort). He was taken into custody without incident from a residence.

“I am grateful to the US Marshals and the local authorities in Orlando for their efforts to help capture one of Mercer’s Most Wanted,” Kemler said. “The entire effort to track down and apprehend Fitzpatrick is a model of interagency cooperation.”
