Mercer County Man Indicted in 2006 Shooting Murder
Ronald C. Smith was indicted in the shooting death of 27-year-old Kevin Thomas, of Hamilton.

A Trenton man has been indicted in the shooting death of 27-year-old Kevin Thomas of Hamilton, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said on Wednesday.
Ronald C. Smith, 32, was indicted on one count of firstdegree murder, one count of second-degree aggravated assault, two counts of seconddegree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun.
Thomas was shot at around 4 a.m. on Sept. 3, 2006, when he was a passenger in a four-door Honda that was stopped at a red light at the corner of East State and Chambers streets in Trenton.

A dark-colored SUV pulled up alongside of the Honda and someone inside of the SUV allegedly began shooting at the Honda.
The driver of the Honda drove directly to Saint Francis Medical Center where Thomas succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the other passengers in the Honda also sustained a gunshot wound.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force identified Smith as the alleged shooter following an investigation.
Smith was charged on July 29, 2014, while he was incarcerated for an unrelated offense. His bail was set at $750,000 on the alleged homicide. He remains in prison. He was indicted last week.
