Mercer Man Shot In Front Yard, Shooter Charged With Murder: MCPO

Amir Williams was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, officials said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Mercer man was shot in the front yard of a home in broad daylight on Wednesday afternoon, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Thursday.

On Wednesday around 2:17 p.m., Ewing Police Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call about someone shot at 75 Sussex Street.

Officers arrived on the scene to find Dehaven Rogers in the residence's front yard with gunshot wounds, Onofri said.

He was then removed from further danger. The suspect, Amir Williams, was seen in the front right window of the home, authorities said.

Police then established a perimeter around 75 Sussex Street with their weapons drawn and began ordering Williams to come out with his hands up, Onofri said.

Williams did not comply initially, but eventually exited the front door of the residence and surrendered himself to Ewing Police, Onofri said.

Rogers was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

Williams was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently in custody at the Mercer County Corrections Center. The Prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to detain him pending trial.
