Mercer Warehouse Fire So Intense, It Melts Traffic Signal: Officials

Whitehead Road will continue to remain closed on Tuesday, officials said. Meanwhile, small flare-ups continue on the site.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — As of Monday afternoon, fire crews were still working at the Hamilton warehouse site, trying to put out small flare–ups and to ensure they don’t become bigger flames, officials said.

So intense was the fire that it melted the traffic signal on Whitehead Road, Hamilton mayor Jeff Martin said. On Monday, Mercer County DOT was working to restore the traffic signal.

Throughout the weekend Whitehead Road and Sweetbriar Avenue were closed, as crews worked on the site.

Meanwhile, Whitehead Road will continue to remain closed on Tuesday as well, according to township officials.

“We know it is a busy intersection, and we appreciate your patience,” Martin said in a Facebook post.

A 4-alarm fire engulfed the building that was formerly occupied by Goodall Rubber last Thursday.

Around 26 firefighting units from 14 municipalities respond to battle the blaze.

Hamilton Police closed multiple roads in the area and several homes adjacent to the property were evacuated for safety.

The incident is being investigated by the Hamilton Township Police, Hamilton Township Fire Investigation Unit, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
