Movie in the Park

"How to Train Your Dragon," kids games in Beech Woods Park in South Brunswick

Beech Woods Park will be the backdrop to the movie, “How to Train Your Dragon,” when the South Brunswick Recreation Department, along with movie sponsor , host a free "Movie in the Park" today (Friday, July 15) from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

Beech Roads Park is located at 137 Beekman Rd. in Monmouth Junction, between Route 1 and Route 27.

The movie will be shown on a giant blow-up screen, thanks to a donation by Brunswick Urgent Care, said Jenn Petri, program coordinator with the recreation department.

“We are expecting 100 to 150 people,” Petri estimated about Friday’s turnout.

Before the movie starts, there will be games for kids, including a tug of war, hula hoop game and an egg toss. Brunswick Urgent Care will provide juice boxes for the kids, and there will be a DJ with music for the kids, Petri said.

How to Train Your Dragon,” a 2010 Dreamworks animation movie, is a delightful tale about a misfit Viking teenager who, despite local lore about the fierceness of the local dragon population and the Viking community’s hatred of them, befriends one and changes how the community interacts with the mythic animals.

In the case of inclement weather, call after 5 p.m. today at (732) 329-4000, extension 7686, to check whether the movie will be moved to its rain location at the South Brunswick Community Gym in Woodlot Park at 124 New Rd.
