Newark Teen Indicted In Mercer County Man's Murder: Prosecutor
Danny Saad was 15 when police say he stabbed 27-year-old Carlos Leiva-Oviedo last summer. He will be tried as an adult.

A Newark teenager has been indicted on five counts in the fatal stabbing of 27-year-old Carlos Leiva-Oviedo, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Monday afternoon.
Danny Saad, 16, was indicted on one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of first-degree robbery, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Saad was 15 at the time police believe he stabbed Leiva-Oviedo. He was waived to adult court in April. He remains in the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center.

Trenton police officers found Leiva-Ovieda collapsed near his car on Hudson Street suffering from multiple stab wounds while responding to Hudson and Genesee streets on a report of a man bleeding at about 3 a.m. on June 14, 2016.
Leiva-Oviedo was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police were able to identify Saad as a suspect after releasing video and still images from the scene to the media in July of 2016.

He was subsequently arrested at a relative’s house in Newark. Another man is pictured in the photos, but has not been identified by police.
