Updated: Vehicle Fire on Route 1 in Lawrence Twp.
The blaze on the northbound side of the Trenton Freeway disrupted morning traffic.
Northbound traffic along the Trenton Freeway (Route 1) was disrupted for about a half-hour this morning (Wednesday, Feb. 23) by a vehicle fire.
The blaze, which was reported at 7:59 a.m., occurred just south of the Route 1 North exit to Whitehead Road. The vehicle - a 1997 Toyota Rav 4 - was reportedly engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The vehicle's driver, Jeffrey Loo of Morrisville, told police he was driving north on his way to work when his vehicle experienced somekind of mechanical problem and lost power, according to Lt. Charles Edgar, spokesman for Lawrence Township Police.

The vehicle then began to belch smoke. Loo stopped along the side of the road, got out and spotted flames under the hood, Edgar said.
Both Lawrence Township and Trenton received 911 calls about the blaze.

Firefighters from Engine 10 and Rescue 1 of the Trenton Fire Department and Lawrence Township's Slackwood Volunteer Fire Co. responded and extinguished the blaze.
All northbound traffic was stopped as a precaution while firefighters battled the blaze.
After the fire was out, the charred vehicle was removed by a tow truck and the road was reopened to traffic.
