Rider To Offer Masters Degree In Arts Management

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Beginning this fall, Rider University will offer a Master of Arts in Arts Management and Executive Leadership, university officials announced on Wednesday.

The online, 39-credit program was established to prepare students to enter a variety of arts, entertainment, cultural and tourism industries armed with the necessary business and managerial skills needed to assume, and excel in, leadership roles.

“The program is specifically designed with executive leadership needs in mind,” Assistant Professor and Interim Program Director Todd Dellinger said. “It is a perfect fit for anyone who hopes to advance in their current job and move into an executive-level position within the field. It's also perfect for those who have an undergraduate degree in arts and entertainment industries management or one similar from another institution. They will have a leg up on others first entering the field.”

The Master of Arts in Arts Management and Executive Leadership is the first master's degree offered by Rider's School of Fine and Performing Arts. Classes are taught by professors in the fine and performing arts disciplines, as well as by faculty from Rider's AACSB-accredited College of Business Administration. AACSB accreditation is the most recognized form of specialized/professional accreditation an institution and its business programs can earn worldwide.

“Students will feel confident in their knowledge of arts management, and in their understanding of business skills they need as their careers progress,” Director of Graduate Education, Liberal Arts and Continuing Studies Admission Jamie Mitchell said.

The program fosters cohort-based learning with on-campus retreats at the beginning and end of the program. A mandatory two-and-a-half-day summer bootcamp orientation introduces students to the program, while a one-and-a-half-day leadership seminar prepares aspiring executives as they exit with their master's degrees.

Graduates will find their skills applicable in the commercial and nonprofit theater world, dance companies, recording labels, film and media outlets, and arts and tourism agencies, among other sectors. A five-year B.A./M.A. program is also available to qualified Rider undergraduate students.
