South Brunswick Officers Revive Mercer County Man Who Was Electrocuted

South Brunswick Police Officer John Niper, Officer Rick DeLucia, and Officer Gagan Chopra arrived within minutes.

South Brunswick police officers helped save a 48-year-old Hightstown man Thursday who is in critical condition in the burn unit at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston after being electrocuted while at work.

At 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the victim was working near a conveyor belt inside the Seldat Distribution warehouse on Thatcher Road. Witnesses said the victim came in contact with the conveyor belt that was somehow electrified and was shocked. The victim collapsed and stopped breathing.

South Brunswick Police Officer John Niper, Officer Rick DeLucia, and Officer Gagan Chopra arrived within minutes and began CPR on the man. Niper applied an automatic defibrillator and shocked the victim. Within seconds the victim regained a heartbeat, but remained unconscious.

South Brunswick EMS and paramedics arrived and provided medical care. A New Jersey State Police medevac helicopter landed next to the warehouse and transported the victim to the hospital.

The South Brunswick Fire Marshal ordered the building closed as an imminent hazard due to the incident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration along with the Fire Marshal’s office are continuing the investigation into the incident. The warehouse will remain closed Friday while the investigation into the case continues.
