Trenton Police Officer Injured in Shootout Remains in Critical Condition
Detective Edgar Rios was shot in the shoulder during an Aug. 15 shootout. He is the second most senior member of the Trenton Police Department.
A Trenton police officer injured during a shootout on Aug. 15 remained in the hospital in critical but stable condition Tuesday morning, nj.com reports.
Detective Edgar Rios, 53, of Hamilton, was shot in the shoulder while he and Detective James Letts, 45, responded to a domestic dispute. The assailant, 23-year-old Eric McNeill, was killed in the shootout.
Letts underwent surgery and recovered shortly after the shooting, but Rios remained in the hospital on Monday with no updates, according to the report.

Tuesday night, the Trenton Thunder will host New Britain in a game in which proceeds from online ticket sales using the code TRENTONPD will benefit Rios and Letts.
On the same day the shooting took place, Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced a pair of programs to help combat crime in the city, which is on pace to see a record number of fatal shootings this year.

Rios is the second most senior member of the Trenton Police Department, according to nj.com. He’s been a member of the department since 1981.
