Two Mercer County Fugitives Captured

Tariq Stephenson, 31, and Dashawn Carmichael, 41, were both captured last Wednesday.

A pair of fugitives – one wanted for a parole violation of sexual assault and one for parole violation and warrants on multiple charges – were captured by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force - Counter Gang Unit, and the New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Unit last week.

Tariq Stephenson, 31, and Dashawn Carmichael, 41, were both captured on the 100 block of Hoffman Avenue after an active investigation.

Stephenson was on parole for sexual assault, and was wanted on a violation of his parole by the New Jersey State Parole Board, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler said. At the time of his capture, he was allegedly in possession of a loaded Black Ops .177 revolver.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, certain person not to possess a firearm, and possession of a firearm after having previously been convicted of a criminal offense.

He is held on his violation of parole, in addition to $200,000 bail for his gun charges, was transferred to a State prison facility after both were initially lodged at the Trenton Police Department Detention Unit.

Carmichael was wanted by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office for his failure to appear on a violation of probation

related to a burglary charge. He was also wanted on warrants from the Trenton Municipal Court for failure to appear for obstructing the administration of law, and by the Hamilton Township Municipal Court for failure to appear on a CDS charge. He is being held on his fugitive charges at the Mercer County Correction Center pending a court appearance.

“I am grateful for the joint work of the US Marshals Service, the NJ State Police and our Sheriff’s Detectives for taking two more criminal fugitives off of our city streets,” Kemler said.
