United Way Offers Assistance with Filing FAFSA Forms

On Saturday, January 11th United Way of Greater Mercer County’s United Financial Empowerment Partnership host its newest service FREE assistance with filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms at the West Windsor Library from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Call to register 609. 799.0462.

 

Trained staff and volunteers help to ensure that students are filling out the application correctly.  Completing a FAFSA provides access to funds for college and is a critical component of accessing higher education. “We hope that by providing this resource we can educate and empower students to achieve their college goals,” said Tarry Truitt, Director of Community Programs.

Those who plan to attend the free application assistance session should take these 3 steps to get started prior to attending.

Step 1: Select 5-10 colleges you want to attend

Step 2: Apply for your PIN at www.pin.edu.gov (Both student and parent needs PINs.)

Step 3: Collect all required documents.

·         Social Security cards (ID proof), drivers license, W-2 Forms and other records of money earned, Federal income tax form (most recent), records of untaxed income, records of assets.

 

Additional FAFSA completion sites are being held throughout Mercer County.  A complete listing of additional dates and locations is available at www.uwgmc.org/fafsa.

 

United Way of Greater Mercer County’s United Financial Empowerment Partnership now includes FREE Tax Prep for individuals and families making less than $50,000; FREE assistance with filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms with no income limit; and Free financial seminars and debt management services.

 

Free FAFSA services – CollegePath, a United Way initiative is supported by Citi Foundation in conjunction with Financial Aid University.
