‘Unsubstantiated’ Claims Forces Mercer School To Shelter In Place

An elementary school in Robbinsville sheltered in place Wednesday after unsubstantiated claims of an unknown person on school property.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – An elementary school in Robbinsville was forced to shelter in place after receiving information that an unknown person was spotted on school property, the school district said.

The information was ultimately found to be unsubstantiated, district officials said.

Around 11:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Sharon Elementary School in Robbinsville went into shelter in place, after receiving information that there was an unknown person on school property, the district said in a statement.

All outside activities were canceled and indoor school activities continued.

The Robbinsville Police Department responded immediately to the scene and the information was proved to be unsubstantiated, district officials said.

“We would like to thank our School Resource Officer, Shane Heisler, and the Robbinsville Township Police Department for their prompt response and partnership,” district officials said.

"Additionally, we would like to thank our students and staff for their cooperation and following all of our established safety protocols.”
