Washington Crossing Audubon Society Presents: "Protecting Endangered and Endemic Birds at Alta Loma, Ecuador: The Role of Science, Environmental Education, and Strong Local Guidance," a presentation by Dr. Dusti Becker

Washington Crossing Audubon Society will host a free, public presentation at 8 PM on Mon, Oct 26 by Dr. Dusti Becker, co-director of Life Net Nature, a non-profit focusing on community-based wildlife conservation. Dr. Becker's studies resulted in the creation of a 7000-acre protected cloud forest called the Loma Alta Ecological Reserve in western Ecuador. The Reserve provides habitat for 20 threatened bird species, including the critically endangered Esmeraldas woodstar, and over 20 species of hummingbirds. Her talk will introduce the birds of Alta Loma and describe why a community of poor rural farmers decided to protect one of the last strands of forest in the Colonche Hills of Ecuador.
Dr. Becker's program will be preceded by a series of short reports from last year's recipients of the WCAS Holden Grants, a program that has over years provided important support of Dr. Becker's work in Ecuador.
The program will be held in Stainton Hall on the campus of the Pennington School, 112 W. Delaware Ave., Pennington, NJ. Refreshments are served at 7:30 PM and the program will begin at 8 PM. Additional information at: www.washingtoncrossingaudubon.org. Visit us on Facebook.
