On Friday, January 31st, sixth graders from Markham Place School in Little Silver were treated to an afternoon of presentations and activities to promote Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self Control (CARES).
Members of the community who have made a positive impact visited the school and inspired kids to give back. This year, representatives from Blue Star Mothers of the Jersey Shore, the Wounded Warriors Project, Holiday Express, HABcore and Jason’s Dreams for Kids shared their time, enthusiasm and knowledge for the fifth annual Markham CARES Day.
Students were actively engaged in activities such as writing letters to military personnel, crafting encouraging messages to fellow classmates, making scarves for those in need, role-playing how to manage a household and packing up shipments of donated items earmarked for troops stationed overseas. The event was very well received by students and a true collaborative effort among all involved.
