Affordable Housing Alliance and Spring House Non-Profit Merger Announced

A merger between the Affordable Housing Alliance and the Homing Corporation, the parent organization of Spring House, two long time Eatontown-based non-profit organizations, has been announced, according to J. Frank Patock, President of the Board of Directors of the Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA).

“This new affiliation will extend the successful Spring House Residential Services Program to the nearly 400 affordable housing units within the Affordable Housing Alliance’s rental portfolio,” said Patock. “Spring House’s 20-year old program has been proven to help break the cycle of homelessness for women and their young children. Now its focus will shift to helping underserved households living in AHA’s affordable housing gain additional skills and services to become more financially independent and self sufficient.”

The Spring House Residential Services Program at AHA will include life-learning programs such as Aging in Place, English as a Second Language, Eviction Prevention, Parenting Education, Nutritional Counseling, Resume Writing and Job Search Assistance, plus an After-School Children’s Homework Club, Bingo and Family Movie Nights, and recreational trips and cultural outings, coordinated by licensed social workers.

“While not clinical in nature, these programs and activities will provide residents with education, resources and recreation,” says Donna M. Blaze, Chief Executive Officer of the Affordable Housing Alliance. “This program will improve the overall quality of life and provide measurable benefits for our residents. Combined with the extensive array of housing services already offered by AHA, such as Financial Literacy Training, Credit Counseling, Budgeting, and New Homeowner Workshops, the Spring House Residential Services Program will enable household members to stabilize their own lives and, in turn, will benefit the communities in which they live.” Residents requiring clinical services will receive appropriate referrals.

The Spring House properties on South Street in Eatontown NJ have been absorbed into the Affordable Housing Alliance rental portfolio. The main house has been leased to the Drenk Foundation, which will continue to provide residential services for young women. The additional housing on the property has been rented to income qualified households.

Scott Garley, who was formerly President of the Board of Directors of Spring House. Garley and two other former Spring House board members, Dana Giblin-Guest and Robert J. Rosone, all of Little Silver NJ, have joined the Board of Directors of the Affordable Housing Alliance.
