Joey Perfetto received Scouting’s highest award at a Court of Honor Ceremony held Sunday, Feb. 10. The Court of Honor was convened by Little Silver Scout Troop 126 at the Little Silver Fire House.
Joey is 18 and a senior at Red Bank Regional High School. He is the son of Lisa and Paul Perfetto of Little Silver. He is active in the high school’s varsity wrestling team.
Joey’s Eagle Scout Service Project consisted of marking over 600 storm drains in Little Silver, with a permanent marker that stated “No Dumping, Leads to River.” These markers serve as a deterrent to putting debris or material in or near the drains, and will help to educate the public that the storm drains go directly into waterways untreated. Beachgoers and fisherman will benefit from Joey’s project, because the rivers flow into the ocean, which means cleaner water and sand. Joey also worked closely with the Little Silver Environmental Committee to locate the storm drains and label maps.

The project was completed in September of 2011, after more than nine months of planning with over 120 community service hours, more than 30 volunteers, and $1,750.00 in funding from the Little Silver Environmental Commission. Joey also organized 32 Scouts, family members and friends to help him complete his project.
