ROBIN HOOD FUNDS CPC BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE TO PROVIDE FREE COUNSELLING FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY SUPERSTORM SANDY

April, 2013:  The Robin Hood Relief Fund has made a grant of $140,000 to CPC Behavioral Healthcare, allowing the Agency to provide free counseling to shore town and Bayshore area residents who were affected by Superstorm Sandy.  Services are available in four towns, Highlands, Keansburg, Sea Bright, and Union Beach, six days a week.  Evening hours and weekend appointments are available to make it more accessible for people who work during the day.

Licensed professionals with expertise in trauma and crisis counseling are available to help individuals and families who are experiencing threats to their mental and emotional well-being as a result of the stress dealing with the aftermath of the storm.  Many people, including families with young children, are still living out of their homes, struggling to get answers from insurance companies and uncertain about rebuilding requirements.  Counselors with experience in treating victims of natural disaster report that mental health crisis often manifests several months after the initial event, when mental and physical energy reserves are often depleted and the stress of ongoing uncertainty feels particularly overwhelming.

CPC is one of the largest non-profit agencies in Monmouth County dedicated to improving the mental and emotional well-being of county residents and one of the only resources for people who are struggling financially and/or are uninsured.  Last year, the Agency provided more than 2,000 people with subsidized care with the belief that no one should be denied the opportunity to recover their best health simply because of poverty or financial crisis.

Robin Hood is a New York City based non-profit dedicated to addressing issues that contribute to poverty.  Responding to the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, Robin Hood launched a large-scale relief effort to aid those in the tri-state area whose lives were impacted.  In the five months since the storm, Robin Hood has allocated over $70 million in grants to nearly 400 different groups including 100% of donations from the historic '12-12-12" Concert for Sandy Relief.
