The Community YMCA Offers Camp Scholarships to Families Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

With generous support from the Robin Hood Foundation, The Community YMCA is pleased to offer summer camp scholarships for children and families impacted by Hurricane  Sandy. Scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 2 free weeks of camp at Camp Arrowhead in Marlboro, Camp Zehnder in Wall Township, or at camp programs in Red Bank, Matawan and Middletown.

“We’re committed to nurturing the development of kids,” said Community YMCA President and CEO Rhonda Anderson.  “Hurricane Sandy was devastating for many families, and we are thrilled that we can offer this opportunity with the help of the Robin Hood Foundation.”

The child or family must meet 1 or more of the following criteria:

• The family experienced/is experiencing displacement from their home as a result of Hurricane Sandy. (Must show FEMA documentation, evidence of rental assistance, insurance documents, etc.)
• One or both parents experienced/is experiencing job loss of one month or more as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy. (Must show unemployment documentation, letter from employer, etc.)
• The child experienced/is experiencing displacement from their regular school as a result of Hurricane Sandy.  (School documentation needed.)
• The family experienced/is experiencing significant damage (50% or greater) to their place of residence as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy resulting in financial hardship. (Must show insurance documentation, % loss statement, etc. 

The Robin Hood Foundation was founded in New York City in 1988.  Its main goal is to help alleviate problems due to poverty, but often provides funding for other programs.  They have been providing grants for organizations throughout the Tri-State area in response to Hurricane Sandy.

The Y offers kids ages 2 ½ to 16 a variety of summer camp experiences in a safe environment where they can explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop social and interpersonal skills, stay active and healthy, and make lasting friendships and memories.
