Children who are entering Kindergarten in September of 2013 are invited to participate in the Oceanport Soccer Association's "Kindercamp". This informal, co-ed, skills based camp is held each Saturday from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Blackberry Bay. Each child is provided with a t-shirt and a soccer ball by OSA. The camp runs from the third Saturday of the soccer season through the seventh Saturday of the soccer season. The focus of the camp is to have the players learn basic ball handling skills while playing fun, soccer-related games. Registration forms are distributed during the first week of school. A registration form can also be obtained on this website by CLICKING HERE.
Children in first and second grade are invited to participate in our "Division 1" soccer league. These single sex teams play against each other for nine weeks. Each team practices for at least one hour a week on a weekday. All games are played on Saturday mornings and most games take place at Blackberry Bay Park. Monmouth Beach usually has two teams entered in both the boy's and girl's division, so some games are played in Monmouth Beach. At this level, the emphasis is on having fun while learning the basic skills of the game. Playing time is distributed as evenly as possible and, as with all levels of recreation soccer in our program, every player is guaranteed to play at least half the game. Grades three through eight compete against teams from other towns as part of the Northern Monmouth Soccer Association (NMSA). Teams are separated into three divisions and they are grouped by gender and grade level. Division 2, comprised of players in the 3rd and 4th grade, plays on a small sided field and each team fields 8 players at a time. Division 3, comprised of players in the 5th and 6th grades, plays on a larger field and each team fields 11 players at a time. Division 4, comprised of players in the 7th and 8th grades, plays on a full sized field and each team fields 11 players at a time. There is typically one practice during the week, and games are played on Saturdays. In the middle of the season, we set aside one Saturday for an "All-Oceanport Day". On this day, all of the Oceanport teams compete against each other for "bragging rights" and the day culminates in a pizza party and a Coaches v. 8th Graders soccer match. The Oceanport Soccer Association's program is recreational in nature. We make every effort to balance the teams at all grade levels so that all of our teams are evenly matched. The most important aspect of our program is that our children enjoy themselves while learning about the game of soccer. Good sportsmanship, on the part of the players, parents and coaches, is of paramount importance. If you are seeking a more competitive experience for your child, we can direct you to travel soccer clubs and leagues in the area.
NOTE: THE OCEANPORT SOCCER ASSOCIATION IS NOT AFFILIATED IN ANY WAY WITH THE "OCEANPORT LONG BRANCH SOCCER ACADEMY" OR THE "OCEANPORT SOCCER ACADEMY", BOTH OF WHICH ARE FICTITIOUS NAMES UTILIZED BY A FOR-PROFIT ENTITY KNOWN AS "PREMIER SOCCER TRAINING, INC." OF WEST LONG BRANCH, NEW JERSEY.
