Family Promise® Needs Runners & Walkers for NJ Marathon Weekend May 5-6. Start will be at Monmouth Park. Sign Up Starting Today!

Do you enjoy walking or running along the shore?  Would you like to support homeless families in Monmouth County? Family Promise® of Monmouth County needs your help. On May 5-6th, participants in the NJ Marathon can raise critically-needed funds for Family Promise® of Monmouth County.

Family Promise® provides homeless children and their families with food, shelter and comprehensive services by partnering with our community.  We are committed to advocating for innovative solutions to ending family homelessness.

You can help in several ways.  You can run or walk 3 miles in Saturday’s (May 5) Family Fun Race.  On Sunday (5/6) you can join another person and run about 6.5 miles each in a half-marathon relay, you can run a 13.1 mile half marathon, or you can go all out and run a full 26.2 mile marathon.

If you can’t run or walk, you can participate by sponsoring a walker or runner with a pledge of $10, $25 or more.  Last year 14 Family Promise® runners raised almost $8,000.  This year our goal is to enlist at least 25 runners and walkers and raise over $15,000 in funds which are urgently needed to help homeless families in Monmouth County.

For more details, please visit the web site http://www.familypromisemc.org/ .  There is information about the race course, how to register, key dates, and how to gather sponsors and pledges. Donations are of course tax deductible and can also be made securely on our website www.familypromisemc.org .

Family Promise® of Monmouth County, an affiliate of national Family Promise®, works with community agencies, faith-based services, churches and synagogues to provide shelter, food, transportation and supportive services including case management for homeless families

Our Network is made up of host congregations who have pledged the use of their facilities and the participation of volunteer members and support congregations who provide additional volunteers and support.

Family Promise® of Monmouth County usually accommodates 3 to 5 families or a maximum of 14 people per day. The network consists of a Day Center and 12 host congregations. For one week approximately every 3 months congregations provide a place to sleep for families who find themselves temporarily homeless as well as meals and fellowship. The Family Promise® of Monmouth County Day Center (located in Middletown) has shower and laundry facilities as well as a kitchen for preparing mid-day meals.

Each year we provide roughly 10,220 meals and 5,110 bed-nights for families in need.  Referral calls to Family Promise® of Monmouth County from families seeking temporary housing have increased steadily since the program has begun. Our staff currently receives 6-8 calls a week; unfortunately our capacity falls far short of the demand.

Family Promise® provides a safe place for them as their parents learn new life skills and work to get back on their feet. We could not do this without the support of our congregations, volunteers, community members and donors like you. Please support Family Promise® at the NJ marathon to help the homeless children and families in Monmouth County.

Thank you.
