The Community YMCA is celebrating Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27 with a free community event for kids and families at the Family Health and Wellness Center in Red Bank and five additional locations across Monmouth County. Healthy Kids Day is a kick-off to helping parents get a jump on creating a healthier summer, a time when kids are most prone to being sedentary.
Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of children, will include a host of physical and educational activities with community partners to inspire kids and families to stay physically and intellectually active all summer long. Research shows that kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically during the summer months if they are not engaged in activities that stimulate the mind and body.
The Red Bank event will take place from 9-11:30 a.m. at 166 Maple Avenue, and will include activities with community partners including the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ and the Junior League of Monmouth County. Kids will be able to make their own trail mix, have fun learning about nutrition and take a guided walk through Red Bank. Kids who complete the walk will receive a jump rope (while supplies last.
