Hey Local Businesses, Need a Good Intern?

RBR's Academy Internship Program seeking partners in the community to give students real world experience this summer.

(RBR) operates four-year, state-approved vocational programs to prepare students for college study and careers in engineering, finance, and informational technology, all areas very key to our national growth and prosperity.

These programs function as smaller learning communities within the high school and were created in affiliation with national organizations including The National Academy Foundation. The programs are also advised by a board of local community business professionals.

Academy students regularly participate in regional and national competitions with such organizations as Future Business Leaders, Technology Student Association and Project Lead the Way. RBR Information Technology students recently won two major national championships in and competitions.

A key component of the academy programs is summer internship opportunities with local businesses, which provide real life applications to the students’ studies. Students are required to fulfill these summer internships following the completion of their junior year and once they have completed three full-years of course study in their academy major.

RBR welcomes any business or institution in or near Monmouth County that would like to offer internship opportunities to our academy students in the areas of engineering, architecture, municipal planning, building, finance, and insurance. Our IT students can aid any business looking for help with their informational technology systems.

The students are interviewed for these internships. Once hired, they are given job performance reviews, just as the real business world. The program is coordinated through the school’s supervisor, (usually their school-year teacher) and the hosting community business or organization.

The RBR Academies of Business and Information Technology Supervisor Pete Grandinetti states of the internship program, “This offers our students the opportunity to bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace through closely supervised employment experiences. In turn, the businesses receive some valuable help from students trained in industry-related functions.”

Engineering students possess drafting knowledge and learn to read documents and architectural prints. They are exposed to digital electronics and circuitry. Information Technology majors, who studies concentrate on networking and computer science, can code at the college level and wire and configure a computer network. Finance majors study business ethics, financial planning, investments and insurance.

Over the years, RBR has been most grateful to area businesses who have participated in the internship program including T & M Associates in Middletown, the Naval Engineering Station in Lakehurst and the Massa Montalto Architects in Neptune (who have taken on RBR engineering majors for summertime internships.) Similarly, the Two River Community Bank has been a great supporter of the finance majors. RBR’s award-winning technology students have been granted working opportunities year after year at Fort Monmouth.
