It Is In the Genes #Volunteerism #Inspired

All of my inspiration has come from two very special women I was fortunate to have in my life: My Grandmother and Mother. They were strong, single moms, selfless, and always put others before themselves. My Grandmother (who raised 8 children) was forced to retire at age 70 and continued her volunteerism as a Girl Scouts of America leader, political activist and church leader among many other things. My Mom also raised my sister and myself all alone with the basic necessities. However, as both these woman instilled a sense of community volunteerism and importance of Education. I have seen firsthand how the lack of education limits life’s opportunities. It is because of these struggles that I have dedicated my life to education and helping Woman and children reach their potential. Education has been my ticket out of poverty and homelessness; if it can work for me it can work for others.

After spending 26 years in various public schools as a high school math and science teacher, guidance counselor, guidance director, assistant principal, school psychologist, 7 years ago I was give a great opportunity to join the staff at Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School as their Learning Consultant. It was here in Rumson that I found the ultimate giving, volunteer organization in which my educational and moral beliefs meshed. That was the Junior League of Monmouth County. It is through this organization that I have found hundreds of wonderful volunteer woman helping other woman and children better their lives through training and educational opportunities.

The Junior League of Monmouth County inspires me every day. It also gives me a connection to the future through our work with woman and children as well as the past as I know my Grandmother and Mother would be proud!!
