The popular 4-day sailing camp at Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club in Oceanport started today which introduces novices to sailing in a fun and non-threatening manner. Open to beginners ages 8 and up, the kids began their day with a chalk-talk followed by rigging the boats and hours of fun on the water. Each boat had a junior instructor at the tiller and 2-3 campers who got hands-on experience and plenty of tips. The mini-camp concludes with a barbecue this weekend where sailors can show off their new skills!
Campers may choose to participate in the 4-day program alone or continue on in one of the summer sessions. Many sailors find out this week that they love sailing so much, they want to continue with the 7-week program that runs from July-August.
For information about the junior sailing programs, visit www.ssyc.us or email Jeff Jacobi at g.jeffery.jacobi@gmail.com. There are a few spots available for the morning beginner session which starts on Monday, July 1.
