Little Silver Kids Save The World

Plain brown grocery bags from Sickles Market have been transformed into imaginative works of art by the students of Point Road School in Little Silver.

Under the supervision of Point Road School art teacher Dale Dvorak and Ms. Candee, over 400 plain brown bags now bear colorful images and messages to be kind to our planet.  The bags were handed over to Bob Sickles in the school gymnasium on April 8, and will be used on April 22 at Sickles Market in Little Silver, when purchases are bagged at the checkout on Earth Day 2011.

“Each bag represents the value of the students’ commitment to protect our planet and its resources by encouraging people to reduce waste and minimize their carbon footprint,” said Dvorak. “The children put their hearts and talent into each bag they created to bring Earth Day awareness to the community of Little Silver.”

During the presentation, “The Green Team” from PRS spoke about the history of Earth Day and how important it is to take care of our planet. The students recited a pledge to take care of our planet and sang accompanied by their music teacher Mr. Eric Clark on guitar.
