Little Silver Volunteer Fire Company Throws Irish Shindig

The Little Silver Volunteer Fire Company hosted a St. Patrick's Day fundraising dinner for the community to support their heroic efforts.

It was a brisk sunny day on Saturday, March 19, and as you approached the Little Silver Volunteer Fire Station, you were met with Irish folk music, children’s laughter, and the exciting energy that emits once a year during the Fire Companies annual St. Patrick’s Day Party! This celebration is one of the largest fundraisers the Fire Company hosts, with over one thousand people in attendance.

“It has become an annual event” event chairman, Kevin Brennan, said. “It’s been wildly successful. It’s a family event, and it helps support our fire department.”

The party provided attendees with St. Patrick’s Day inspired food and entertainment. An enormous outdoor tent housed the entertainment, and it was decked out with St. Patty’s day fare: shamrock balloons floated above tables, gold ribbons were strewn about, and a big Irish flag draped from the ceiling.

Throughout the night, attendees and delighted kids danced to live bands, playing everything from classic rock to traditional Irish music.

Quintessential St. Patty’s day food was served, including potatoes, cabbage, and of course, corned beef.   But, it wouldn’t be a St. Patrick's Day party without the beer! Inside the tent was a full bar, with friendly bartenders serving elated guests. There was wine, beer (Guinness was most popular), and even non-alcoholic beer.

The fundraiser helps support the Little Silver Volunteer Fire Company, and is a way for the community and firefighters that keep them safe to celebrate and show each other their appreciation.

The funds from this event help support the volunteer firefighters and their equipment. The money will go towards building maintenance, training new volunteers, and replacing old tools and equipment.

“It’s a great event,” Assistant Fire Chief Andrew Smith said. “It builds stronger camaraderie with the members of the fire station and brings the community together.”

It may have been the corned beef; it may have been all the Guinness, but judging from the smiles of everyone in attendance, the Third Annual St. Patrick’s Day Fundraiser Dinner for the Little Silver Volunteer Fire Company was a huge success!
