Little Silver's Salon For Dogs
Groomingdales Pet Salon in Little Silver keeps the dogs in town looking sweet!
If you are going to take your dog to a groomer to make them look and feel good, why not take your dog to a groomer who loves animals and would treat them like their own? One such person is Julie Stumpf, owner of , located at 90 Oceanport Avenue in Little Silver.
Groomingdales has been at this location for 11 years. Before opening here, Stumpf rented space at the Shrewsbury Animal Hospital. Recently, Groomingdales was voted #1 in Monmouth County by Monmouth Health & Life Magazine.
At one time a customer left two standard poodles in a will for Stumpf. While these dogs have since passed on, their memory is kept alive in the shop by a wonderful portrait. Also displayed in the shop are some of the many medals these dogs have won for obedience.

Stumpf was taught how to train dogs by the well-known Diane Bauman. “Dogs are always good,” stated Stumpf. “It’s the owners who need to be trained.”
In regards to all of the bad publicity that pit bulls have been receiving, Stumpf had this to say. “They are just misunderstood.”

Currently, Stumpf is the owner of two dogs, a German Shepherd named Luger and a Standard Poodle named Jasper. Luger was bred by Tony Amato of the popular Jersey shore band Boccigalupe and the Badboys. “Not having kids, my dogs have their own bedroom,” Stumpf shared.
Why is Mrs. Stumpf involved with dogs? “I think they’re nicer than people. I understand dogs. They don’t lie to you.”
“I used to groom cats, but I kept getting sick all of the time,” continued Stumpf. It turns out that she was allergic to cats, so Groomingdales just concentrates on dogs.
Stumpf explained that the difference between dogs and cats was that cats hated being groomed. “Dogs are vain.” There is a $10 bath special running all summer long.
This salon for dogs offers baths, blow drying, haircuts and ear cleaning, as well as many other grooming related services. A popular service this time of year is deskunking dogs. “We get rid of the smell, but as soon as the dog gets wet, the smell comes back,” explains Stumpf. “This can go on for 6 months.”
With the store hours listed as 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, Stumpf does emphasize that “I will bend over backwards to meet a customer’s time frame.”
