During Hurricane Sandy, some of the hardest hit areas were those that did not have any protection from dunes. This series will focus on the important role that natural dune systems play in protecting our coast from powerful waves and wind. Dune dynamics and the native plant species that inhabit the dunes will also be discussed. After lunch, there will be a field visit to a nearby dune system in need of restoration where participants will be invited to help plant American beachgrass.
