Monmouth Beach Man Badly Injured In Tire Explosion

Man was filling a tire with an air compressor when accident happened, police chief says.

A 56-year-old Monmouth Beach man is in critical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a chunk of a tire rim exploded and struck him in the head while he was filling his tire, according to nj.com.

The man - whose name has not been released by police - was struck by the metal rim when the tire he was attempting to fill with an air compressor around 2:30 p.m. on Borden Street exploded, Chief Thomas C. Walsh said.

The man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit, the chief said.
