Monmouth County Junior League to Hold Forum on Teen Suicide Prevention

The Junior League of Monmouth County Invites the public to a very important conversation on the prevention of teenage suicide.

On Friday, September 26, the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) will host a forum on Teen Suicide Prevention at 9:30 to 11 am at the JLMC headquarters at 55 Center Street, Rumson, NJ. A community conversation on this third leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds will be guided by mental health experts Stacy Doumas, MD, a Psychologist at Jersey Shore University Medical center; Red Bank Regional Source Head Clinician Stacy Liss, LSCW; and Therapist Alicia Zink, LCSW. Due to limited capacity, the public is encouraged to RSVP by September 24 to communityjlmc@gmail.com.

Recognizing the growing numbers of teen suicide in the community, the Junior League of Monmouth County’s Community Planning and Advocacy team decided to host this forum. In fact, Monmouth County has the highest suicide rate in Monmouth County. The panelists and participants will share experiences and best practices with a goal of better understanding signs and symptoms of depression, why suicidal thoughts are present in young people, risk factors and warning signs, and ways to respond. They will also spend time discussing resources including school-response intervention.

For 75 years, the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) has been a presence in Monmouth County, with volunteers committed to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
