The 4-day sailing camp at Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club in Oceanport is in full swing this week. Geared towards novice sailors age 8 and up, the kids have enjoyed perfect weather while learning the basics of sailing.
The annual barbecue for sailors and their families was held Friday evening where the campers showed off the skills they learned over the first three days of lessons. Each taking a turn at the tiller, with an instructor on board to help if needed, the kids proudly took their families for a sail on the Shrewsbury River.
The mini-camp has been such a success that many kids have begged their parents to sign them up for the 7-week sailing program that starts on Monday. Commodore Kelly Zweig and Jr. Program Chair Jeff Jacobi spoke to parents about the exciting summer SSYC has in store and encouraged them to take advantage of both the junior and adult lessons.
