N.J. Dept. of Education publishes annual report card for Little Silver, Oceanport schools

This past week, the N.J. Department of Education released its annual New Jersey School Report Card, which presents thirty-five fields of information for each school in the following categories: school environment, students, student performance indicators, staff, and district finances.

“One of the major goals of the Department of Education is to increase school- and district-level accountability for educational progress by communicating useful information to members of the public to be used in measuring how well their schools are doing,” according to the NJDOE. “The New Jersey School Report Card has provided the public with information about every school in New Jersey since 1995 when the Legislature mandated the annual accountability report.”

Here are some highlights from the 2009-2010 school year findings for Point Road School, Markham Place School, Red Bank Regional High School, Wolf Hill School, Maple Place School and Shore Regional High School:

Point Road School

• The length of a normal school day at Point Road was 6 hours and 30 minutes. The state average was 6 hours and 30 minutes.
• 5 hours and 30 minutes was the amount of time per day Point Road students were engaged in instructional activities. The state average was 5 hours and 42 minutes.
• The student/computer ratio at Point Road was 2.0, while the state average was 3.6.
• 99.1% of Point Road students spoke English as their primary language at home. 0.2% spoke French, and 0.4% spoke Vietnamese.
• The percentage of students who entered and left Point Road during the school year was 4.1% while the state average was 10.5%.
• The percentage of students who were suspended from Point Road during the school year was 0%. The state average was 4%.
• The total cost per pupil for the 2009-2010 school year was $14,143. The state average was $14,288.

Markham Place School

• The length of a normal school day at Markham Place was 6 hours and 45 minutes. The state average was 6 hours and 30 minutes.
• The amount of time per day Markham Place students were engaged in instructional activities was 6 hours and 0 minutes. The state average was 5 hours and 42 minutes.
• The student/computer ratio at Markham Place was 1.8, while the state average was 3.6.
• The percentage of students who entered and left Markham Place during the school year was 1.2%. The state average was 10.5%.
• The percentage of students who were suspended from Markham Place during the school year was 1%. The state average was 4%.

Red Bank Regional High School

• The length of a normal school day at Red Bank Regional was 6 hours and 54 minutes. The state average was 6 hours and 53 minutes.

• The student/computer ratio at Red Bank Regional was 2.0, while the state average was 3.1.
• The percentage of students with IEPs (Individualized Education Program), regardless of placement/programs, was 14.0%.

• 85.6% of Red Bank Regional students spoke English as their primary language at home. 12.4% spoke Spanish, and 0.3% spoke Greek.
• 85.5% of Red Bank Regional students graduated by passing HSPA. 82.5% was the state average.
• 79% of Red Bank Regional students took the SATs, while 66% was the state average.
• 30.8% of Red Bank Regional students participated in Advanced Placement courses, while the state average was 19.9%. The number of AP test scores 3 or higher was 179.
• The percentage of students in grades 9-12 who dropped out of Red Bank Regional during the school year was 0.0%, while the state average was 1.7%.
• The graduation rates for the RBR Class of 2010 was 99.6%, while the state average was 94.7%.
• The percentage of Red Bank Regional students who pursued a four-year college/university degree post-graduation was 63.3%.
• The percentage of students who were suspended from Red Bank Regional during the school year was 5%. The state average was 14%.
• The total cost per pupil for the 2009-2010 school year was $21,451. The state average was $16,937.

Wolf Hill School

• The amount of time per day full-time students engaged in instructional activities was 5 hours and 57 minutes, as opposed to the state average of 5 hours and 56 minutes.
• The student/computer ratio at Shore Regional was 3.1, which was the state average.
• The percentage of students with IEPs (Individualized Education Program) regardless of placement/programs was 11.9%.
• 99.0% of Shore Regional students spoke English as their primary language at home. 0.6% spoke Portuguese and 0.1% spoke Spanish.
• The percentage of students who entered and left Shore Regional during the school year was 4.2%. The state average was 9.7%.
• 86.4% of Shore Regional students graduated by passing HSPA, while the state average was 82.5%.
• 79% of Shore Regional students took the SATs, while the state average was 66%.
• 25.1% of Shore Regional students participated in Advanced Placement courses, while the state average was 19.9%. The number of AP test scores 3 or higher was 76.
• The percentage of Shore Regional students present on average each day was 96.5%. The state average was 94.6%.
• The percentage of students in grades 9-12 who dropped out during the school year was 0.0%. The state average was 1.7%.
• The graduation rate of the Class of 2010 was 99.5%, while the state average was 94.7%.
• 64.4% of graduating Shore Regional seniors pursued a four-year college/university degree post-graduation.
• The percentage of students who were suspended from Shore Regional during the school year was 3%, while the state average was 14%.
• The total cost per pupil for the 2009-2010 school year was $20,343. The state average was $16,937.
