No Winner Yet to Claim Powerball Windfall

Everywhere you went on Thursday -- the gym, pick up from school, even the orthodontist's office -- people were talking about it. And all anyone wanted to know was who purchased the at that's worth $70 million.

Judit Drucker, a spokesperson for the NJ Lottery told Patch on Thursday that as of 5 p.m., no one had come forward to claim the prize.

Drucker said that the first step was to make sure that everybody checks their lottery tickets. After that, the winner might be in "shock" and want to check with legal and financial advisers before stepping into the spotlight.

In the meantime, Matt Parisi, whose family has owned the Little Silver Family Pharmacy since 1999, thought it was "unbelieveable" that the jackpot ticket was purchased at his store.

"I've got the chills," he said since he heard the news around 8:30 Thursday morning. "I mean, the odds are like one in 330 million."

As the retailer to sell the winning ticket, Little Silver Family Pharmacy also comes out a winner with a $10,000 bonus from the NJ Lottery, according to Drucker.

Parisi said that this isn't the first time a lottery customer has hit the jackpot at the pharmacy. In 1992, a Pick Six player bought a ticket worth $7 million and two years ago, a Mega Millions player won $250,000 from a ticket purchased at Family Pharmacy.

Parisi said he still jumps behind the counter now and then to sell Lottery tickets. On Tuesday he sold a woman a ticket to the Powerball drawing and remembers telling her, "Here's the winning ticket."

He's anxious to see if it was.
