NOSY NEIGHBOR: Shrewsbury resident 'at a loss' with sexting
Red Bank-Shrewsbury Patch columnist Carolann McLoughlin on DIY pornography

From :
"For someone who has been around (and around and around and around) the block I try to keep up with the new technology. I don’t think I’ve done too badly. We’ve had a computer in our home for over 25 years – back in the day we were ‘innovative.' I used a computer in my office back in the old dot-matrix printer days – remember that hideous noise? No, you probably don’t – take my word for it, when something was printing out everybody knew it. We positioned our first fax machine in a common area in the hallway at the office. When the “bing-bing” would go off indicating that a message was about to come through we would all run from wherever we were to watch the paper coming out with – miracle of miracles – not just copy but an image on that horrible crinkly paper.
Over the years I’ve mastered many programs; Photoshop is my constant companion; I take pictures (videos too) with my cell phone; I don’t have one but I can navigate an iPhone, an iPod, an iPad and I’m familiar with Kindles, Nooks, etc., etc., etc. Digital photography has been my means of imagery since it first hit the market.

Yet – I have to admit I am at a loss with the practice of ‘sexting’. I, of the ‘around the block crowd’, understand that if I write something of a private and intimate nature; pose nude for a cell phone shot (how’s that for a mind blower?); put up something on YouTube where I’m sucking on someone’s toe surrounded by belly dancers throwing rose petals up in the air that they might fall on all those assembled in the hot tub – these musings, events are up there – out there for the world to see forever and an eternity. And – furthermore, these same revelations will come back to haunt me and/or my lineage for as long as we all shall live. If I get it – why can’t young people get it? These young people who know nothing but technology, the youth of our nation who will carry our society into electronic regions unimaginable to one such as I."
