Oceanport Man Allegedly Threatens Woman with Butcher Knife
The Myrtle Avenue resident faces three charges for the April 4 incident.

An man is facing charges for allegedly attacking a woman and threatening her with a butcher knife.
John C. Byrne, 45, of 436 Myrtle Ave., was arrested on April 4 by and charged with assaulting a home health aid, according to a complaint warrant.
The defendant allegedly grabbed and punched the victim and then went into the kitchen and procured a butcher's knife, which he used to threaten the her life.

Byrne was held on $25,000 bail with the condition that he have no contact with the victim and submit to psychiatric screening to determine if he is a danger to the public, according to records, which indicated he had demonstrated violent behavior on previous occasions.
The defendant was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a deadly weapon and making terroristic threats.
