Point Road Trots for Holiday Express

Students did laps for donations at their fourth annual Turkey Trot on Monday.

Students at participated in their fourth annual “Turkey Trot” exercise event on Monday to benefit , a local charity which brings music and cheer to institutionalized adults and children between Thanksgiving and Christmas. 

Each grade used some of their physical education time to run or walk as many laps as they could in 20 minutes.

Families were asked to sponsor their children by agreeing to donate at least one item for the Holiday Express wish list, which includes things like body wash, coloring books and winter clothing items.

Laps were logged on a form parents had previously completed, which was returned home to remind each family what they agreed to donate.

Children will deliver their donations to the lobby of Point Road School between now and Thursday, Dec. 1. Elves from Holiday Express will then collect the items for distribution at their performances.

"The school believes this is a healthy way to involve the students in community action and to let them know there are many ways children can help others," said Point Road School Clerk Debi Pomerleau.

Holiday Express will be performing at the Red Bank Town Tree Lighting at Broad and Canal Streets on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
