The Red Bank Catholic community congratulates junior Ralph Tancredi on his acceptance into the 2014 class of the prestigious New Jersey Governor’s School in the Sciences (NJGSS.) The program brings top NJ high school students to Drew University for three weeks during the summer to study and research topics such as neurobiology, physics and cell biology. Almost entirely funded by private and corporate donations, NJGSS is free of charge to the students, thus making it highly competitive amongst the state’s most qualified high school juniors. Applicants must nominated by their schools and complete an extensive application. The 2013 program selected 85 students from over 350 applicants from throughout the state.
One of the most notable NJGSS alumni is Nobel Prize-winner Adam Reiss, an astrophysicist who received the international science prize in 2011 for his work proving that he universe is actually accelerating, not decelerating.
Ralph was humbled and thrilled when he was notified of his acceptance: “I was so thrilled that RBC chose to nominate me as I knew they had to choose from the top students in my class. It is a huge honor to be accepted into the program.” He shares his goal of going to medical school, “I aim to graduate with an MD and to use my education to improve the human experience. I believe that the pursuit of genetics, nanotechnology, and the like can help to improve mankind’s condition by prolonging life and easing its end.”

He will also attend evening colloquium presentations by speakers from both industrial and academic areas, giving him insight into real-world considerations related to work in science.
Ralph is looking forward to the experience and explains, “Red Bank Catholic has been instrumental in giving me all the confidence I need. I feel support from everyone here – from my teachers and fellow students. I am ready.”
