RBR Student takes Second Place in Regional Shakespearean Contest

She will perform for the ESU's annual luncheon on May 20 along with the first and third winner.

Red Bank Regional (RBR) student Shea Grant, 16, Little Silver, placed second in the English Speaking Union (ESU) Shakespeare Competition which took place on March 10 at Brookdale Community College. This marks the second time Shea, a drama major in RBR’s Visual & Performing Art Program, took the second position in that regional competition. For her competition performance role, Shea portrayed Portia’s dialogue in a scene from Julius Caesar.She would represent the ESU in the national competition should the first place winner, Devlin Stark of Red Bank Catholic, not be able to fulfill that function. She will perform for the ESU’s annual luncheon on May 20 along with the first and third winner.

She states of her experience, “I most enjoy this competition, having done it twice already. Everyone is really talented and prepared and there is a true appreciation for the language.”

According to its website at, https://www.esuus.org, “The ESU celebrates English as a shared language to foster global understanding and good will by providing educational and cultural opportunities for students, educators, and members.”
