RBR Students Grow Mustaches for Breast Cancer Cure

"Stache-tober" competition raised over $500 for Saint Peter's University Hospital.

During the month of October, six (RBR) students, four of their teachers and their athletic director took the challenge to grow the best mustache during national breast cancer research month in an event they coined "Stache-tober". Pictures of the clean-shaven contestants were displayed in the school cafeteria for comparative purposes to their developing lip brow. The RBR Key Club collected donations per contestant, with patrons choosing their favorite mustached man.

RBR Athletic Director Del DalPra introduced the activity to RBR and hopes that it can grow into an interschool event among other athletic departments in coordination with their service organizations. The proceeds of over $500 will be donated to Saint Peter’s University Hospital who, through a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, bring breast cancer awareness to over 12,000 female athletes in the greater Monmouth Country area.

Senior Jake Cullinane, of Tinton Falls, was the big winner and had the honor of sporting the Pink Winner’s belt in the final mustached photo before everyone sprinted for their shavers.
