DWI Checkpoints In Monmouth County Friday And Saturday Nights

Breaking: One is being conducted by local police, the other by New Jersey State Police.

If you're planning to go out and have a good time for Memorial Day weekend in Monmouth County, make certain you designate a sober driver: There will be a pair of DWI checkpoints looking for those foolish enough to put others at risk on the roads.

The Monmouth County DWI task force will conduct a checkpoint Friday night in Deal, said Brielle Police Chief Michael W. Palmer, the task force coordinator.

The checkpoint, from 10 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday, will be on Ocean Avenue in Deal, he said. Task force members and officers from the Deal Police Department will pull vehicles from the northbound lanes into the Deal Casino Beach Club parking lot to determine driver’s sobriety,

State Police announced the Saturday checkpoint in a post on Facebook but did not give the time or location.

"Our advice to you is that if you plan on drinking, have a designated driver, arrange for transportation, or stay where you are." the State Police post said. "If you take our advice, you won't have to worry about this not-so-sneaky checkpoint. Also, you'll completely eliminate your risk of hurting or killing yourself, a friend, a loved one, or innocent motorist because you were driving under the influence."

Officers will be looking not only for drivers who are drunk but also for those under the influence of drugs.

The State Police post also urged motorists to report drivers who appear to be under the influence: "If you're out and about this weekend and you see a driver who you believe is posing a hazard because of poor driving, please call the aggressive driver tip line from a hands-free mobile device to report it by dialing #77. Be ready to give a description of the vehicle and occupants, a location and direction, and a license plate if possible."
