Scholarship Honoring 9/11 Pilot Captain Jason Dahl Awarded to Little Silver Resident

Brett France of Little Silver received the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship for 2013.  Captain Dahl was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed in a Pennsylvania field on September 11, 2001.   Dahl’s widow, Sandy Dahl, established a scholarship fund in her husband’s memory. The scholarships are awarded to deserving aviation students to help, according to the scholarship committee, “Enable a brighter future in flight for generations to come.”

France, a 2010 graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School, is a senior at Purdue University, where he is currently studying professional flight technology. France was honored to receive the scholarship at the annual Captain Dahl Scholarship Awards Dinner held in Denver, CO,  “I believe the scholarship shows my determination to become a professional pilot. With hard work and motivation anything can become a reality. I hope to lead by example and represent the best in the aviation community just as Captain Dahl did.”   France holds a flight instructor certificate and is currently earning hours towards his commercial pilot license through a summer internship at a corporate jet company.  He also instructs fellow Purdue aviation students.
