To the Editor,
We have an important primary election for Livingston Town Council on June 2nd when Livingston voters will have an opportunity to choose candidates that will appear on the November ballot in the general election. The League of Women Voters of Livingston will be hosting a candidate forum on May 12th to give voters an opportunity to get to know the candidates and ask questions. There are three open seats and there are seven candidates running in alphabetical order: Stacey Abenstein, Ketan Bhuptani, Tim Foley, Laurie Kahn, William Lam, Ed Meinhardt, and Daphne Dan Wang. The event will take place at the Livingston Senior Recreation Center on Hillside Ave beginning at 7 PM. It will be recorded by LTV.
Please note some important dates and additional voter information. Those who vote by mail should have received their ballots as they were mailed out on April 18th. It is best to place your ballot in the drop box in back of Livingston Town Hall as ballots are picked up each day and delivered to the Essex County Clerk’s office. May 12th is the last day to register for the June 2nd primary. New Jersey has closed primaries which simply means that you must be registered with a party in order to vote. If you are unaffiliated you may choose a party on primary day, June 2nd and be able to vote. Early in person voting begins May 26th and runs through May 31st. If you have any questions the Essex County Board of Elections can be reached at 973-621-5071.
Voter turnout in primary elections is generally lower than the general election in November-don’t let others choose for you. Please make a plan to vote and make your voice heard! We hope you will join us on May 12th to meet those who will represent us in this important election.
