The “Seat of Creativity” evolved from the desire to bring an art display to the community by placing reproductions of artist’s works on the benches located up and down Livingston Avenue. As this concept unfolded, it was appropriately titled “The Seat of Creativity.” After four years it has become simply known as the “Bench Project.”
The ACL Art Gallery, now located at 240 East Northfield Road, has been showing the work of local New Jersey artists for almost 10 years at numerous venues that include Town Hall and the Livingston Senior/Community Center. Our themed shows often host the artwork of artists from the surrounding area. In this year’s “Bench Project”, the Arts Council is featuring selected photographs from the Livingston Camera Club. While the response has been strong, the possibility for display is limited by the number of benches with proper placement and visibility. The projected timetable for the installation should place 30 photographs on display from Memorial Day through September.
The mission of the Arts Council of Livingston has always been to foster the arts of the Livingston area. It is our hope that this project brings the creative efforts of the participating artists to a new and broader audience.
