LIVINGSTON, NJ — A $225 million addition to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston is expected to be a game-changing resource for patients undergoing cancer treatments in North Jersey, administrators say.

An unveiling event was recently held for the hospital’s Melchiorre Cancer Center, a “state-of-the-art” outpatient facility that will specialize in oncology services.

The five-story, 137,000-square-foot facility will bring together physician specialists, researchers, nurses, support teams and cutting-edge technology under one roof. Patients will have increased access to therapies, clinic trials and advanced treatment options in connection with the Rutgers Cancer Institute, which gathered for the unveiling event along with representatives from RWJBarnabas Health.

Cancer care is expected to begin at the new center on July 13.

When it’s officially opened to the public, the new cancer center will include:

“For those across North Jersey who are taking on one of the toughest fights of their life – the fight against cancer – the trip for the best available, National Cancer Institute-designated care no longer requires a drive across a bridge, or through a tunnel… it will be right here, around the corner,” RWJBarnabas Health president and CEO Mark Manigan said.

“Patients and families dealing with cancer deserve access to comprehensive care in a setting designed specifically to support healing, comfort and hope,” Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center CEO Rick Davis agreed.

The new cancer center also got a big thumbs-up from its namesake, the Melchiorre family.

“Health care is such an important part of people's lives, and we are incredibly proud to be part of a project that will make such a meaningful difference,” Andrea and Anthony Melchiorre said.

“This center will have a lasting impact on patients, families, and everyone whose life has been touched by cancer, providing hope, healing, and access to exceptional care when it matters most,” they added.
