Livingston Youth Appreciation Week Is Celebrating Its 30-Year Anniversary

This year marks the 30-year anniversary of Livingston's Youth Appreciation Week. This weeklong series of events celebrate Livingston's youth and recognizes their achievements and contributions to the community.

Healthy Community Healthy Youth Initiative of Livingston, Inc. (HCHY) will chair this event for the 18th consecutive year. The week-long celebration returns to September after a successful week last year. Alan Karpas, President of HCHY who chairs the events, stated, "Everyone is excited to return to the celebration for our youth and their families' day."

Most of the events are free, and some require pre-registration. All of the information about the events is available on the township website at livingstonnj.org/YouthAppreciation

Building Blocks Workshop – Legos for Families

Build the American Revolution 250th in New Jersey. We have selected historic buildings from all over NJ that played a part in the Revolution. We also have a giant map of NJ showing the locations of the buildings and important battles.

This event is on Thursday, September 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue. Pre-registration is required; pre-register online through Community Pass or in person at the Recreation & Senior Services Office, 204 Hillside Avenue. This event is $25 per family. $10 signup fee per individual ages 10+.

Parents' Night Out

Parents can drop off their children (grades K through 5) and enjoy a night out together while the kids have fun. The Recreation and Senior Services Department will provide a supervised mini-camp that includes games, activities, and a movie. Pizza for dinner and a snack during the movie will be served.

This event is on Friday, September 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue. Pre-registration is required; pre-register online through Community Pass or in person at the Recreation & Senior Services Office, 204 Hillside Avenue.

Movie Under the Stars & Town-Wide Campout

All are invited to participate in the Town-wide Campout on Saturday, September 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The evening will feature games and activities for kids, dinner, and a movie under the stars. Stay for this year's movie under the stars: ELIO.

Police Department Community Block Party

The Livingston Police Department is hosting its Third Annual Community Block Party on Saturday, September 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Oval. The event will feature tethered hot air balloon rides during the day's festivities. The rides will be offered from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. There will be 200 tickets available and they must be purchased in advance at Police Headquarters from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on September 17 on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are $10 and only cash will be accepted. All proceeds will be donated to Shiv's Third Eye in memory of Livingston resident Shiv Kulkarni. As all of the proceeds are being donated to charity, no refunds will be given if the balloon is cancelled due to weather or other circumstances. Youth Appreciation Week's Family Fun Festival will be a part of the day as well, featuring an incredible array of free, family-friendly activities, including a petting zoo, craft tent, pony rides, chalk walk, demonstrations from robotics programs and a touch-a-truck experience.

Also at the event will be the Livingston Fire Department's annual Fire Prevention Open House. There will be fire apparatus and ambulances on display along with tools and equipment as well as a motor vehicle accident extrication demonstration that will be done with the assistance of the Livingston First Aid Squad to replicate an actual accident scene.

This community event is made possible through generous local support, including Silver-level sponsors Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel and Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, and Bronze-level sponsor Master Pizza.

Goods and services are being donated by Bagels by Jarrett, Blaze Pizza, Calabria, Crystal Plaza, Expert Plowing and Landscaping, Fialkoff's Kosher Pizza, Franco's Pizza, Landmark, Livingston Collision, Livingston Pizza, Master Pizza, Pepsi, and Turano's.

Bike Livingston

Join us for our Annual Bike Livingston event! A time of fun, family, and fitness in the heart of Livingston! Whether you ride with training wheels or a ten-speed, this event is designed for all ages and skill levels. Explore scenic routes through our community, enjoy interactive bike stations, and make memories that roll on long after the event is over.

This event is on Sunday, September 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., between Livingston Town Hall and the West Essex YMCA.
