The Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities (LACD) recently hosted its fifth annual Pool Party for Children and Adults with Disabilities and Their Families, welcoming more than 150 guests from Livingston and surrounding communities, including students from the Spectrum360 programs.
The free, inclusive event gave individuals with disabilities and their families an opportunity to enjoy a day together in a welcoming and supportive environment. Guests enjoyed swimming, water slides, bubble play, and other activities, along with food, beverages, and snacks.
The event was made possible through the support of many members of the community. City Council members Alfred Anthony and Michael Vieira, City Council candidate Stacey Abenstein, Livingston police officers Michael Barreiro and Joy Klapal, Livingston Board of Education member Fang Gong, Human Service Coordinator Tom Sadowski, and LACD members attended to support the celebration. In addition to committee members, LHS Key Club students and volunteers from the National Charity League generously donated their time to help make the event a success.
One mother shared a particularly meaningful story about her family's experience. It was the first time her family had ever been able to attend a pool together, making the day especially memorable. Her children enjoyed the snacks, food, swimming, and, most of all, the wonderful people who were there to welcome and assist everyone.
Under the supervision of a lifeguard, her son unexpectedly demonstrated that he could stay afloat and even waddle or swim in the water for the very first time. For his mother, the moment was both joyful and reassuring - an unexpected milestone that made an already special day even more meaningful.
Stories like this are exactly why the LACD is committed to creating opportunities where everyone can participate, connect, and feel included. The committee is grateful to see so many people come together to support a truly inclusive community event.
The LACD extends its sincere appreciation to the Livingston township, the pool management team, police officers, community leaders, supporters, volunteers, and everyone who helped make the pool party possible.
Upcoming Free Programs and Events
The LACD provides recurring activities and special events throughout the year for individuals with disabilities and their families. All committee programs and events are free of charge.

The committee will also host its annual Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center. Participants will enjoy food, beverages, arts and crafts, and dancing with a DJ. An RSVP is requested by Oct.14 at https://tinyurl.com/2026LACDHalloween
