Livingston Residents Among Newark Academy Students Named National Merit Scholars

30 students at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ were named National Merit Scholars, including five from Livingston.

Livingston, NJ - Four seniors at Newark Academy, a 6-12 independent school in Livingston, NJ - were named 2027 National Merit Semifinalists, joining 16,000 students across the country. The semifinalists from Newark Academy include: Leyu Girma, Katherine Liang, Sachin Mitra and Ethan Zhou.

In addition, 26 Newark Academy seniors were named National Merit Commended Scholars for placing among the top 50,000 students who entered the competition. Among them are five Livingston residents: Murat Acikel, Kiran Adams, Leah Gershgorin, Aarav Sekhri and Scott Yao.

The other NA Commended Scholars include: Elijah Burrell, Lucille Cheng, Arun Damodaran, Raghav Hariharan, August Huang, Henry Lee, Teo Levin, Emily Lim, James Lin, Kayleigh Rodriguez, Sayuj Sharma, Sathvik Subramanian, Noah Tamiso, Kim Tran, Marco Tucci, Kai Van Garderen, Anika Vasani, Annie Wu, Nathan Yan, Astrid Youngren and Yuxi Zhang.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that recognizes and provides scholarships to students. Each year, approximately 1.2 million high school juniors take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to enter the program.
